Armour

Armour

These articles of protective apparel are sorted by increasing cost. Although most require Armour Training (Light) or Armour Training (Heavy) to use properly, armour that has an Armour Check Penalty of -0 can be worn by anyone without difficulty. Armour that is noted as "Bullet-Proof" gets its full defensive value against Ballistic damage; armour that is not Bullet-Proof grants no bonus to Toughness saves against Ballistic damage.

Anti-Garrote Collar

Patented in 1863 and enjoying a brief fad in areas plagued by famous stranglers, the anti-garrote collar is solid steel and is embellished with spikes to deter the hands of foes. Unfortunately, it must be worn outside the shirt and its obvious and garish nature makes the wearer look more than a little ridiculous. The wearer is immune to the Chokehold feat and anyone attempting such a maneuver suffers a slashing attack based on the attacker’s own Strength (+0 modifier). 1 lb; Purchase DC 5 from the Catalog

Zeppelin Rigger’s Safety Uniform

The danger of working in a hydrogen-rich environment is minimized by this non-metal uniform. It includes a pair of overalls made from strong, soft cloth with no metal buckles or buttons. The shoes are padded felt. If metal tools are an absolute necessity, aluminum versions are used. 4 lbs; Purchase DC 6 from the Catalog

Mail Vest

Worn by Tong enforcers in Chinatown or the Orient. Alan Quatermain also kept a mail shirt, which he wore to good effect in several African battles. Medium armor; Toughness +3; armor check penalty –3; 30 lbs; Purchase DC 11

Sturdy Corset

The latest fashion in corsetry uses a steel “spoon busk” down the center to shape the body. Combined with whalebone ribbing around the side and back, this results in a garment both restrictive and strong. Light armor; Toughness +1; armor check penalty –1; Purchase DC 12. Since most women of the age do not have Armor Training (light), they suffer a –1 on all Strength and Dexterity related checks, as well as all attack rolls. This represents a “ready-to-wear” garment; treat custom-fits as masterwork examples: eliminate the armor check penalty but raise Purchase DC to 15.

Buffalo Coat

A long overcoat made from the fur and hide of a buffalo. Popular among Europeans and East Coast dudes traveling the American West. Light armor; Toughness +1; armor check penalty –1; 20 lbs; Purchase DC 13

Breastplate

Still seen in the dress of some military units. Cowboys are occasionally accused of hiding breastplates under their shirts; this charge was leveled at Wyatt Earp. Medium armor; Toughness +4 bullet-proof; armor check penalty –3; 18 lbs; Purchase DC 13

Coal Suit

The ultimate in cold weather gear, this one-piece suit uses a backpack containing a coal-fueled boiler which powers a fan and heating element. Warm air is circulated throughout the suit. Exhaust is piped out two tall smokestacks attached to the helmet. The engine consumed all its coal fuel in three hours, but for that time the wearer is immune to the effect of environmental cold. Without the boiler in operation, the coal suit counts as winter clothing. Light armour; Toughness +1; armour check penalty –1; 30 lbs; Purchase DC 13 from the Catalog

Cowboy Outfit

The uniform of the American cowboy: leather chaps, jacket, and gloves, cowboy boots, Stetson hat, buckskin shirt and pants. Light armor; Toughness +1; armor check penalty –0; 20 lbs; Purchase DC 15

Knife-Resistant Cloak

Advanced chemical technology allows the creation of extraordinarily tough fiber. A heavy cloak of such a fabric provides Toughness +1. Light armour; Armour check penalty –0; 5 lbs; Purchase DC 17 from the Catalog

Romanoff Articulated Corset

Named for the infamous adventuress Olga Romanoff, “the Syren of the Skies,” the Romanoff takes the durability of the steel spoon busk corset to the next level. The skin of the garment is amazingly thin sheets of steel, cleverly joined to allow maximum flexibility. Cotton lines the interior to ease comfort. The metal corset has prompted a number of “iron maiden” jokes in the press. Light armour; Toughness save +2 bullet-proof; armour check penalty –0; Purchase DC 17 from the Catalog (includes masterwork component)

Magnetic Anti-Bullet Vest

This breastplate is made of a patented steel alloy and is attached to a backpack which includes a powerful battery. When activated (the battery provides 20 minutes of power) the entire vest becomes a powerful magnet. Any bullet or metallic missile that passes within five feet of the wearer automatically hits him in the chest! Other metallic objects are mysteriously not affected by the vest’s magnetic qualities. Medium armour; Toughness +5, bullet-proof, attacks with a damage value of +2 or less are ignored and do no damage; armour check penalty –3; 22 lbs; Purchase DC 17 from the Catalog

Articulated Armour

A suit of full plate armor crafted of the most advanced steel alloys. Heavy armour; Toughness save +6 bullet-proof; armour check penalty –5; 58 lbs; Purchase DC 17

Thalassonautic Scaphander Suit

A fully developed self-contained hard-hat suit, including a bronze helmet and a large copper tank with two hours of breathable air. The rubberized canvas pressure suit is good to depths of up to 150 feet. Lead soled shoes included. Swimming in this suit is impossible. Light armour; Toughness +2; armour check penalty –1; 37 lbs; Purchase DC 22 from the Catalog

Steam Battlesuit

The ultimate uniform for elite steam age infantry. It fits a man weighing 140-175 lbs, providing air conditioning for enhanced comfort and a built-in gas mask. The coal-burning quadruple-expansion steam engine has enough fuel for 7 1/2 hours.

Although the suit’s great strength allows the wearer to carry heavy weaponry, additional firepower is provided by a helmet-mounted recoilless rifle: Damage +7; Crit 20/+4; Range 60 ft; 22 shots. Anyone standing behind the battlesuit, out to a range of five feet, suffers a +4 damage attack when the rifle fires, due to blow-back. The helmet gun requires Artillery Training for proper use.

Powered Armour; Raise Str to +5 regardless of the wearer’s actual ability score, but reduce Dexterity by 1 and base speed to 15 feet; Toughness +8, bullet-proof, attacks with a damage value of +2 or less are ignored; armor check penalty –7; 1,044 lbs; Purchase DC 30
